Goals 2017: Buying a Home, Selling a Home

It’s that time of year again…we start looking to the New Year and wondering what we can do that is new, different, better.   And, with that idea of new, different, better – some of you have decided that 2017 is the year that you will buy a new home, sell your home or both!

Does this include YOU?  If it does – you’ve picked the right time and the right place to do it!  According to, the Phoenix area is ranked #1 as the most promising real estate market for 2017!  For those sellers out there, prices are rising and houses are in short supply and for those buyers out there – Phoenix is still one of the most affordable places to live in the country!

If buying or selling your home is your goal – are you ready?  Here are some tips to help you:

 Buying a Home

  • Make sure your taxes are in order.
  • Figure out your budget.
  • What’s your down payment?
  • Find a lender. Get pre-approved if you can.
  • Decide what neighborhoods you are interested in living in.
  • What must-haves can you not give up in your home?
  • Depending on your budget, you may need to give up some wants – what can you live without?
  • Figure out how many bedrooms and bathrooms you need.
  • What type of house – ranch, basement, 2-story?
  • New Build?
  • What’s important for the grounds or yard?

Selling a Home

  • Make sure to deep clean your home.
  • Make any repairs necessary. Be thorough!
  • Make sure you are knowledgeable about housing prices in your area.
  • Stage your home (weed out excess furniture, knickknacks and “stuff”, – toss it, donate it, sell it, store it).
  • Decide where you are going if you haven’t already done so.

Get Help!

You may think that going it alone will save you money.   This is a misconception that has been proven wrong over and over.  Find a reputable real estate agent.  Here’s why:

  • An experienced real estate agent will be your best friend – they know the lay of the land.
  • They will do all of the paperwork.
  • They will get you through all of the legalities.
  • If you are buying a home, they will take all of your wants and needs and do the research for you.
  • If you are buying a new build, a realtor will have your best interest in mind.
  • If you are selling a home, they will guide you through the process and take care of most of the intricacies and details necessary.

This is just the beginning.  Many details lie ahead.  If you are serious about buying a home or selling yours (or both) start now!  It can take a few weeks or a few months but either way time will go by.  Where will you be at the end of 2017?

Happy New Year to all of our family, friends and all our clients past, present and future!

Holiday Lights

Christmas is almost here!   With all the parties, shopping, decorating and wrapping, we all need a break to just enjoy the many holiday light displays in the Gilbert area.  Have you had a chance to go out to see them?  Here is a list of our favorites and then some!

Neighborhood Light Displays

Christmas on Comstock – Have you heard of Christmas on Comstock?  Last year the 13 neighbors won ABC’s “The Great Christmas Light Fight”.  A festive display by these welcoming neighbors.  You can drive through or you can find a place to park and walk though as well.  It is worth the short drive to Elliot Road just east of Higley to enjoy this display of over 100,000 lights.  You can go from Sun-Thurs: 6:00pm – 9:00pm (Dancing Lights) & 9:00pm-10:00pm (Static-No Music) and Fri-Sat: 6:00pm – 10:30pm (Dancing Lights).  Click here for a map that will help you get in and out of the neighborhood if you are going by car or if you are choosing to walk through – the map shows you where you can park.  This year they are raising funds for the Make a Wish Foundation – giving back!  Christmas on Comstock will be open until New Year’s Eve.

Peanut’s Christmas – Another Gilbert favorite is the Peanut’s Christmas located at 146 N. Quail Lane, Gilbert.  This display will win the hearts of all the Charlie Brown and Snoopy fans out there.  The home features over 150,000 lights all glittering with a Charlie Brown and Snoopy theme.  This display is just southeast of Elliot and Cooper.  Go to your GPS for directions.  Unfortunately, there is no link for this display.

Loop of Lights – San Tan Valley – Some very enthusiastic neighbors have gotten together to create a holiday light display to rival the professional light displays in our area!  Loop of Lights is located in the Waverly Subdivision at Pecan Creek South in Queen Creek.  Available for viewing now through Dec 25th from 6:30pm – 9:30pm.   Click on the link for more info.

Interested in more neighborhood light displays?  Go here for a list of nearby displays in the Gilbert, Mesa, Chandler and other nearby community areas.  Enjoy!
